| Presentation abstract: | This talk will describe how to automatically install and configure Oracle RAC on servers using RPM (http://www.rpm.org) and Quattor (http://cern.ch/quattor) , a toolkit for managing very large computer fabrics. It is based on two white papers written by P. Newlan from Oracle UK describing automated installation of clusterware and RAC software using tar, cloning and scripts. The target is to have a fully automated and reproducible installation for any server in the computer centre as well as automated upgrades in software and configuration. The Entreprise Manager agent will be integrated in the same framework. This development is done as CERN has a fast increasing pool of DB servers. How far it can go and how satisfying this development is will be described in this presentation. This is today a work in progress. A lot of experience will be gained before December and will be presented. |
