Presentation Title: Finding the Higgs Boson in an Oracle Database
Speaker: Dr Maaike Limper
Company: CERN
Co-presenter:
Presentation abstract: We present a progress report for a partnership between Oracle and CERN to investigate the possibility of storing and analysing the complex physics data from the LHC project at CERN in an Oracle database. Our report highlights the advantages and limitations of using Oracle database software to handle one of the biggest data challenges of our time.
Presentation begins: 04/12/2012 11:40
Presentation duration: 45
Presentation content level: 4 (1 = indepth, 5 = strategic overview)
Audience experience: All experience levels
Audience function: Customer/Senior Manager, Functional Manager, Oracle, Product Expert, Product User
Speaker biography: Maaike Limper has a master in Physics from the University of Amsterdam, and a PhD in Particle Physics. As a part of her PhD and sub-sequent post-doc she worked on ATLAS, one of the detectors that measures events produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva. During her work as an ATLAS physicist, Maaike participated in the analysis of the first LHC data and was involved in developing some of the ATLAS data-taking conditions databases. As of January 2012 she works full-time for the IT department of CERN as an Oracle funded Openlab fellow.
